The first Print mention of the Old Fashion was in the Chicago Tribune in 1880.
However a gentlemen's club called the Pendennis Club in Kentucky claims the Old Fashioned was there very own creation in honor of Colonel James E Pepper, a well know distiller who brought it into the Waldorf Astoria hotel bar in NY.
In 2015 Louisville named the old fashioned its official cocktail. Every year the first 2 weeks of June Louisville celebrates "Old Fashion Fortnight" which leads up to National Bourbon day which is June 14th. I don't know about you but this is definitely on our bucket list.
